چکیده

Carpooling is an appropriate solution to address traffic congestion and to reduce the ecological footprint of the car use. In this paper, we address an essential problem for providing dynamic carpooling: how to compute the shortest driver’s and passenger’s paths. Indeed, those two paths are synchronized in the sense that they have a common subpath between two points: the location where the passenger is picked up and the one where he is dropped off the car. The passenger path may include time-dependent public transportation parts before or after the common subpath. This defines the 2 Synchronization Points Shortest Path Problem (2SPSPP). We show that the 2SPSPP has a polynomial worst-case complexity. However, despite this polynomial complexity, one needs efficient algorithms to solve it in realistic transportation networks. We focus on efficient computation of optimal itineraries for solving the 2SPSPP, i.e. determining the (optimal) pickup and drop-off points and the two synchronized paths that minimize the total traveling time. We also define restriction areas for reasonable pick-up and drop-off points and use them to guide the algorithms using heuristics based on landmarks. Experiments are conducted on real transportation networks. The results show the efficiency of the proposed algorithms and the interest of restriction areas for pick-up or drop-off points in terms of CPU time, in addition to its application interest. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.1 Combinatorics, G.2.2 Graph Theory, F.2.2 Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems

Single-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons

We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...

Conversion of Network Problem with Transfer Nodes, and Condition of Supplying the Demand of any Sink from the Particular Source to the Transportation Problem

In this article we present an algorithm for converting a network problem with several sources and several sinks including several transfer nodes and condition of supplying the demand of any sink from a particular source to the transportation problem.  Towards this end, and considering the very special structure of transportation algorithm, after implementing the shortest path algorithm or ...

A New Algorithm for the Discrete Shortest Path Problem in a Network Based on Ideal Fuzzy Sets

A shortest path problem is a practical issue in networks for real-world situations. This paper addresses the fuzzy shortest path (FSP) problem to obtain the best fuzzy path among fuzzy paths sets. For this purpose, a new efficient algorithm is introduced based on a new definition of ideal fuzzy sets (IFSs) in order to determine the fuzzy shortest path. Moreover, this algorithm is developed for ...

Query Shortest Paths Amidst Growing Discs

The determination of collision-free shortest paths among growing discs has previously been studied for discs with fixed growing rates [1, 2, 3]. Here, we study a more general case of this problem, where: (1) the speeds at which the discs are growing are polynomial functions of degree β, and (2) the source and destination points are given as query points. We show how to preprocess the n growing ...

Generalized Unfoldings for Shortest Paths in Euclidean 3-Space

The problem of determining shortest paths in the presence of polyhedral obstacles between two points in Euclidean 3-space stems from the general problem of obtaining optimal coliision free paths in robot systems. For the special case when paths are constrained to the surfaces of 3-dimensional objects, simple planar unfoldings are used to obtain the shortest path. For the general case wben paths...
